Free Parties in the Park
We ought to have an article about all the free parties this summer organized by those cool guys, Christopher, Sean, and Tim. They also just happen to be PartySmart members. In fact, most of the cool people in the scene are PartySmart members. Would someone like to take the initiative and write an article about these parties?Photo: Kieran Foster / DopeDesign.com

The bass flows a solid support for Sunday activity, The men surround the barbeque talking promotion and business, DJs worship the tables that beckon them to play, The women socialize with body movements embracing the beat. To the passer-by and their untrained eye; a group of hippies disturbing the peace, but smiles of the participants echo the truth... a family gathered together. Celebrating music and life, sharing a passion, discarding the facades... for a life with a beat. ~ A twinge of jealousy is visible in the eyes of the observer. We’re a make-shift family of: hippies and businessmen, siblings and parents, jocks and artists, adults and children. We resemble a patchwork quilt, thrown together quickly after years of careful gathering of the squares. We are ravers.

Li’l Jess is lately our hardest-working volunteer. She has worked an incredible ten booths in the fifteen weeks between August 9 at “One Love” (pictured here) and November 23 at “Sonic Wonderland 2001.” She is responsible for bringing back the high-five, which has generated a lot of donations. She is also taking the lead in bringing our School Outreach project to Capital High.Photo: Amber Ervin / PartySmart

Party Report, by Jessica
Natural high was decent. It was good to get away from hard house for a night. Justin’s and Jacobie’s sets were awesome... actually, the music in general was really good! Not many people there, so there wasn’t much buisness at the PartySmart booth and so I read for a lot of it! heh heh... all in all... not a bad party.
Featured Promoter: Phill Hardee
Phill is the man behind PurEnergy Productions. He is so cool that one time, he threw a private party for everyone in DanceSafe from all over North America. He rented a lounge at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Albuqerque, where we were all attending the conference, “Drug Policies for the New Millenium.” He brought in a sound system and had DJ Blue spin for us. Then he let some of the DanceSafe people spin, including Melissa Martin from San Diego. After that, Phill spun for his friends, because all the DanceSafe folks were too tired from the conference to stay.
What Makes a True Raver?
What Makes a True Raver? as much as i’d like to think this is about music, dj’s and style, it’s not! this is about a feeling... a true feeling of unity and togetherness that comes from a spontaneous experience of some sort of spirituality. it has no exclusivity to any one style or sound, or even to a group that may call itself “ravers.” it does however involve having a direction to journey somewhere. a spirit of creativity, openness and tolerance. that is what comes from promoters, dj’s, visuals, and space. it’s not about the big name dj, a fold-out 8x10 glossy flyer, or even a never used before space. this is about people. bringing them together in fashion that is truely unique. the brilliance of art that comes from its participants collectively involved in its outcome. we as dj’s, promoters, artists, dancers, or just interested parties, should make a conscious effort to add to this celebration of life. support the creative minds you value in the scene, and reach out to others from all walks of life who may enjoy the what you have come to love.
